Found out last month the average tech sees 4.7 device types now, used to be 2
I was reading an old CompTIA industry report from 2008 and compared it to the 2023 version, and the jump in device categories techs are expected to handle went from desktops and laptops to phones, tablets, IoT gear, and cloud stuff. Back when I started at a small shop in Dayton, if you could swap a hard drive and reinstall Windows you were set, but now I'm googling firmware for smart thermostats during house calls. Does anyone else miss when the job was just PCs, or am I the only one who feels spread thin?
