Had a crazy good week fixing old shop PCs

Spent Monday through Thursday working on 5 old Dell Optiplex desktops at a mechanic shop downtown. Was expecting a nightmare but every single one just needed a new SSD and some dusting. Anyone else ever have a week where everything just goes right for once?

Put a fresh coat of thermal paste on those old CPUs while you had them open. I've seen older Dells throttle like crazy once the paste turns to dust, and a ten minute fix can drop temps 10-15 degrees. Could save them from another headache down the road.

I mean "everything just goes right" - my buddy had a similar thing last month with a bunch of old workstations. He walked in expecting to trash them and all they needed was a CMOS battery swap.

Ha! Oh man, that's the dream right there. I love those little wins where a dead CMOS battery was the only thing standing between a PC and the dumpster. It's almost funny how such a tiny part can make a whole machine look totally dead, you know? People toss perfectly good hardware all the time just because they don't know about that trick. I bet your buddy felt like a wizard walking out of there with a bunch of working computers. Seriously, one of the best feelings in this hobby is solving a problem that easy.
