Old UPS finally gave up the ghost last night
I had a 10 year old APC UPS that's been humming along in the back of my shop, and it started beeping nonstop around 2 AM. Turns out the battery swelled up so bad it cracked the casing. Anyone else let their backup batteries go way too long before swapping them?

My APC did the same thing two years ago. I learned to just swap the battery every 4 years, way cheaper than buying a whole new unit.

Is it really that big a deal or just a loud noise problem?

People really don't get how BAD the sonic booms can be until they live near a base. It's not just loud, it shakes your whole house and rattles windows. Makes you jump out of your skin every single time. Dogs go crazy and kids get scared, it's a total nuisance. So yeah, it's a big deal if you have to deal with it every day.
