Paid $120 for data recovery software when the fix was a bent pin

Spent a full Saturday at my bench in Columbus running that expensive tool on a dead laptop, then noticed one bent pin in the RAM slot with a flashlight. Has anyone else burned money before checking the obvious stuff first?

Oh man, that hurts to read. I've been there with the whole "throw money at it before looking close" thing and it stings every time. The bent pin thing especially, because it's such a tiny fix once you actually see it. You spent a whole Saturday and a hundred and twenty bucks, and all it needed was a pair of tweezers and a good eye. I feel for you, honestly. The worst part is how dumb you feel afterward, but hey, at least you know the software for next time. Hopefully the laptop is alive now and you can laugh about it eventually.
