Question about a client's comment on data backup
A client in Denver told me 'the cloud is just someone else's computer' when I suggested an online backup. It made me rethink how I explain off-site options. How do you guys get past that initial distrust to talk about real backup strategies?

Honestly, that client nailed it and I love when they say that. Tbh, the angle I take is asking what happens when their own computer floods or gets stolen, because someone else's computer in a desert data center doesn't have that problem. Juliaa65 is right about the scale, but the real sell for backup is the physical distance from your own problems. You gotta frame it as renting a really safe, far away locker for your stuff, not just trusting a stranger.

Honestly, that client is not wrong at all. The cloud IS just someone else's computer, and saying that out loud is a great way to build trust. My own pitch is basically, "Yes, and that someone else has way better security and power than your office closet server." It turns the talk from magic internet boxes to a real plan with real pros and cons. You have to admit the simple truth first before they'll listen to the rest.

Yeah, but @the_riley, it's more like a whole bunch of someone else's computers, which is why the uptime and scaling part is the real sell for most folks.
