Went with refurbished logic boards instead of new, 6 months later...

Had to choose between dropping $1,800 on a brand new board for a 2019 MacBook Pro or $420 on a refurb from a supplier in Austin. I picked the refurb to keep the repair quote under what the customer wanted to pay. It's been solid for 6 months now, but I'm still paranoid about the long term. Anyone else gamble on refurbs for older machines and regret it or get lucky?

Refurbs are basically a coin flip wrapped in a spreadsheet, sometimes the math works out and sometimes it bites you. We do this everywhere now, buying used cars with 100k miles or phones with cracked glass, because the upfront savings feel real even when the risk is just delayed. Six months of solid run time is already better than most brand new boards that die from a bad solder joint, so I'd say you beat the house on this one.
