Hot take: those $200 laser levels aren't worth it for a small crew
I used to swear by laser levels for setting screed rails and forms, but I finally had to admit the cheap ones are a waste after buying a $200 Bosch unit last spring. It drifted almost 3/8 inch over 30 feet on a sidewalk pour in Austin, and I ended up pulling the rails and re-setting them by hand, which ate a full morning. My neighbor has an older rotary I can borrow for bigger flatwork, so that's what I do now instead of trusting a box that claims accuracy it can't hold. Has anyone found a no-frills laser that actually keeps its calibration, or am I better off sticking with a string line and saving my money?
