I finally figured out why my broom finish was always uneven

For like 3 years I been doing broom finishes and they always looked kinda wavy in certain light. I thought I was just bad at keeping a steady hand or something. Then last month I was finishing a patio in Phoenix and this old timer walks up and goes 'you're pulling the broom too fast, slow it down and let the bristles do the work.' Turns out I was rushing the whole pass trying to cover ground quick. Now I take my time and the finish comes out way more consistent. Has anyone else had a basic technique click way later than it should have?

You ever have one of those moments where you been doing something wrong for so long that when you finally learn the right way you get mad at yourself? I was the same way with mixing concrete in a wheelbarrow. For like two years I'd dump all the water in first and then add the mix and it would turn into a soupy mess. Then some guy on a job site watched me and goes "why are you doing it backwards, add the water last and control it." Felt like a total idiot but now I dont waste half a bag trying to fix the consistency. Funny how the simplest things can mess you up for years.

You're pulling the broom too fast" hit harder than my first divorce.

My mom used to scream that during hockey practice. Still hear it in my sleep.
