Power trowel burned my slab in Tucson, hand float finish saved it
Rented a walk behind for a 1200 sq ft garage pour and the blades dug in bad on the second pass, so I switched to hand floats and got a way cleaner finish with zero gouges. Anyone else ditch the machine on smaller indoor jobs or am I just slow?
That second pass is usually where it goes wrong on small pours. The mud starts setting up faster than you think, and the machine digs in because the surface can't carry the weight anymore. Once you've got gouges, chasing them with the trowel just makes it worse. Hand floats give you way more feel for when the slab is ready, and on 1200 sq ft you can work it in sections without racing the clock.
