Pro tip: wet curing my slabs beat plastic sheeting by a mile
I used to cover every pour with 6 mil plastic and call it done, but a finisher named Dale in Fort Worth got me to try wet curing with soaked burlap instead. On a 40 by 60 shop slab in July, the burlap stayed damp for 7 days and we got almost no hairline cracks, while the plastic slab I poured the week before looked like a road map. The burlap also kept the surface cooler, so we didn't get that crusted edge where the sun hit it. Plastic is cheaper and easier to haul around, I get that, but I'm not going back for anything exposed to weather. Anybody else wet curing, or am I just late to the party?
