Shoutout to the guy in Wichita who told me to stop finishing slabs wet
Last Tuesday I was on a 40x60 shop pour in Wichita and tried finishing while the bleed water was still sitting on top, and the whole slab came out with blisters and a chalky crust. An old finisher named Ray walked over, told me to wait until the sheen was gone, and the next 3 slabs came out glassy with no dusting at all. Anyone else get taught the wet finish trick early and had to unlearn it the hard way?
Learned that lesson the same way, except I was so proud of my wet finish that I told the whole crew we were ahead of schedule right before the crust showed up. Bleed water is basically the concrete telling you to slow down, and Ray sounds like the kind of guy who saves you a whole pour by just watching the sheen. Took me two years and a lot of dust to figure out patience beats hustle on a slab.
