Tried a power trowel on a small slab, ended up calling my neighbor for help

Last month I ran a 12x16 patio pour in Akron with only a power trowel, no hand tools at all. Figured I'd save time, but the edges curled up something awful before I could get back to them. My neighbor Joe, who's been finishing since the 80s, came over and showed me how to spot the bleed water timing on the floor instead of the clock. Has anyone else bit off more than they could chew with a machine on a small pad?

Used to swear by the machine on everything, but watching Joe work that edge by hand flipped my thinking completely. Bleed water timing over the clock makes way more sense now, you got lucky having him next door.
