Tried stamped concrete with a $60 mat vs a $400 professional stamp and the difference was night and day

Ngl I thought a cheap mat from Home Depot would get the job done on a driveway near Austin. But after 3 slabs the pattern was all uneven and the seams looked terrible. Bought a pro-grade polyurethane stamp from my supplier and the texture was crisp and uniform across the whole pour. Has anyone else found that the tool cost is worth it for those larger jobs?

Ha! Yeah I was totally that guy too. Bought the cheap mat thinking concrete is concrete and a pattern is a pattern. Big mistake. First big slab I did looked like a toddler stamped it. All blurry and the edges were garbage. Ended up biting the bullet on a good polyurethane stamp and it changed everything. The crisp lines alone made it worth the money. Wish I hadn't been so stubborn about it from the start.

Getting a polyurethane stamp was the turning point for me too (you know what they say about buying cheap). The difference in texture and detail was night and day. Ended up using a liquid release agent with it that made the whole process way smoother, kept the concrete from sticking and gave it a cleaner finish. Saved myself a ton of redoing work in the long run.
