Hit 10,000 miles on the odometer of my old truck last week and it got me thinking about that moon landing guy at the gas station

I was at a Shell station in Tucson filling up when some dude walks up and starts arguing the moon landings were faked because my odometer rolled past 99,999. He pointed at the numbers flipping and said that's proof governments hide things in plain sight. Made me laugh at first but then I realized he actually believed what he was saying. Six years later I still wonder how people get so stuck on one idea like that. Anybody else run into someone who turned a random milestone into a whole conspiracy theory?

Wait, he actually followed you from your truck to the pump just to make that connection? That's wild. I had a guy at a laundromat in El Paso try to convince me that the way the dryer numbers reset meant time was a simulation. He was dead serious too, kept pointing at the display like it was proof of something. Some people just latch onto the weirdest things and won't let go. Did you ever see that guy again after that day?

Ah, actually gotta correct one thing. The laundromat wasn't in El Paso, it was over in Las Cruces. Same area but different state, you know? Easy to mix up though, lots of dusty border towns blend together.

Nah, never saw him again, thank god. I feel bad for people who get stuck like that, but man, you can't let them drag you down their rabbit hole.
