Dropped $340 on a trailer brake controller that my truck did not need
Two summers back I bought a Prodigy P3 for $340 because my old controller felt mushy on a dump run and I figured it was dying. Turns out the mushy feeling was just worn trailer magnets, which cost me $60 to swap, and the new controller did the exact same thing because the problem was never in the cab. Some guys swear the high end controllers are worth it for the diagnostics and smooth braking, others say a $70 basic one does the same job if your wiring is clean. I am leaning toward the cheap side now but I want to hear from people running heavy loads every day. What actually made you upgrade, and did it fix a real problem or just your peace of mind?
