GCs keep saying "we'll fix it in punch" like punch is magic
Had a guy in Denver tell me to just caulk a 3/8 inch gap at the tub surround and call it punch work, and that gap was there because his framer was out 1/2 inch on the studs. Anyone else getting told to hide real framing problems with caulk and paint?

Caulk has a limit and 3/8 inch is way past it. That gap will open back up the first time that tub flexes or the seasons change, and then you own it forever because your name is on the punch list. Here's the part nobody talks about: the GC is not really asking you to hide it, he's asking you to take the blame later. Once you caulk it, the paper trail says the framer was fine and the finisher screwed up. I've watched guys get called back two years later to fix cracks that were never their fault. Tell him you'll caulk a 1/16 gap all day, but 3/8 means somebody planes that stud or adds furring, and that is not a punch item, that's a redo.
