Hung out at a supply house in Denver for 30 minutes and saw something that changed my mind

I always thought buying your lumber from the same spot as the big crews was a waste of money, but watching three separate guys grab free technical sheets and chat with the counter guy about load specs made me realize the markup is just paying for knowledge. Any of you actually track how often that free advice at the desk saves you from a call back?

I'd pay the extra just to avoid having to Google something and still be wrong. Peace of mind is worth the premium.

Is it really free advice though when you're already paying 15 percent more for every sheet of plywood? I'd rather Google a load span table than pay someone's retirement fund markup just to chat.

Plus you're paying for their coffee mug collection too.
