PSA: watched a sub crew go from 2 inspections a day to 1 in 3 weeks, and it was all one lazy habit
Their formwork looked fine on day one, but by week three they were stacking lumber and rebar with zero organization, so every inspection dragged on while the guy dug through piles for hardware. The real change was their lead showing up at 9 instead of 6:30 and letting the crew wait on him for layout. If you run subs, do you set a hard start time and hold them to it, or just eat the lost hours?
Used to be in the camp that a hard start time just ticks off good hands and you end up babysitting grown men. Then I ran a job where our lead started showing at 7:30 instead of 6, and it was the exact same slide you saw. Layout got pushed back, guys stood around, then they rushed and stuff got dropped wherever. By week two the material piles were a mess and inspection times doubled. What sold me was watching another crew with the same work and same weather keep their 6:30 start and stay two inspections a day with a clean site. Now I tell the lead straight up, 6:30 means boots on and strings are up, not pulling into the lot. If someone can't hold that, they can run a different crew.
