TIL a homeowner tried to pay me with a handful of thrift store coupons after I finished their basement reno
I was wrapping up a $2,500 drywall and framing job in Cleveland last spring when the guy hands me a stack of coupons for 50% off used sweaters and says, 'This should cover it, right?' then just stared at me smiling, has anyone else ever had a payment offer that made you question everything?

Did you even try calling the cops on that guy?

Wait, are you sure calling the cops would've been the right play there? lmao. Like, what exactly do you think they would've done? Guy was just being a creep, not breaking any actual laws. Cops show up, he says he wasn't doing anything wrong, and they leave. That just makes things more awkward and wastes everyone's time. Honestly, a lot of people in that thread are acting like calling the cops is some magic fix for every uncomfortable situation, but that's not how it works. You gotta pick your battles, and this one sounds like it needed a different approach, not a 911 call lol.

Nah, gonna have to push back on that, @sethm58. Calling the cops isn't about whether a law was technically broken. It's about creating a paper trail. If that guy escalates later, having a record of the first incident matters a lot. Plus, sometimes just the sight of a patrol car rolling up makes creeps think twice about coming back.
