A guy in Denver said to stop buying cheap drill bits, and I finally get why
Back in 2019 a guy at a supply house in Denver told me the $8 bit set would cost me more in the long run than a $40 set of cobalt bits. I laughed it off and kept burning through cheap bits on metal jobs, snapping one almost every week until I did the math and realized I was spending $60 a month on replacements. Has anyone else had someone give them tool advice that sounded like a sales pitch but turned out to be dead on?
I had the same thing happen with saw blades. Guy at the hardware store told me to stop buying the 3 pack for $10 and get one good Diablo blade for $18. I figured he was just trying to upsell me but I was going through those cheap blades every other weekend on a deck I was building. Finally bought the good one and it lasted me like 3 months of hard use. The cheap ones were dull halfway through one day of work. Sometimes the old dudes behind the counter actually know what they're talking about.
