Had a plumber tell me my impact driver was setup all wrong

I was using a 1/4" hex bit in my impact for weeks on a bathroom reno and kept stripping screws. This old plumber saw me struggling, grabbed my drill, and showed me I had the torque setting on maximum like a fool. Has anyone else had some random tradesperson save you from your own stupidity?

Joined the club way late. @henryr45 hit it, I wasnt even thinking about torque till that plumber looked at me like I was hammering nails with a wrench. Felt real dumb but hey, now I dont strip every screw I touch.

Right there with you. Felt like such a rookie when I finally got it too.

Man I felt that one in my bones. Oh man, that plumber basically handed you a free lesson while you were standing there with a stripped screw. Classic. My brother used to run his impact on max for everything, even little cabinet screws. Said he liked the "authority". I told him he was basically using a sledgehammer on a thumbtack. But hey, we all learn the hard way sometimes. At least you didn't have to buy a whole new set of screws before figuring it out.

Learn from him and keep that torque setting lower... especially with smaller screws. I always start low and bump it up if I need to.
