Had to pick between a 7 inch grinder and a 4.5 for a tile job
Grabbed the 4.5 for tight bathroom corners. Threw the 7 in the truck after I chipped four tiles in a row. Anyone else switch down to the smaller disc for finish work?

Nah, the 7 inch is fine if you use a decent blade.

and honestly it's the same with a lot of stuff these days. everyone gets so hung up on the numbers and specs but half the time it's just how you use it. like with tools at work i got guys who swear by the biggest most expensive thing and then they still mess it up cause they don't know what they're doing. meanwhile i've seen people get perfect results with a cheap basic model just cause they learned the technique. same with cooking or even driving. a decent driver in a beat up car can still outrun someone in a fancy one who can't handle a turn. people think they need the best of everything but really they just need to get good with what they've got.

@garcia.wren you're right that a good blade makes a difference but i think what @zarag17 said about people getting hung up on numbers is exactly what i was getting at. it's like when my buddy borrowed my 4.5 for his kitchen backsplash and he kept complaining about the blade size when really his issue was he was pressing too hard and burning through tiles. the smaller grinder just forces you to slow down and be precise, which is the same reason i grab my cast iron skillet over nonstick sometimes. technique beats specs every time lol
