Hot take: cordless hammer drills are overrated for concrete work

I used to swear by my Milwaukee cordless for anchor holes until my buddy Wilbert brought his old corded Hilti to a job site in Phoenix last July and it chewed through a 6-inch slab in half the time with no battery swapping - has anyone else gone back to corded after being all-in on battery power?

Watching Wilbert run that corded Hilti for 45 minutes straight without breaking a sweat was like seeing a caveman discover fire all over again... battery tech still isn't there for real concrete work.

Wilbert's probably still holding a grudge against batteries from when they died on his Game Boy in '94.

Have you actually tried the newer Milwaukee or DeWalt high-output batteries on a serious coring or demo job? I ran a 90mm core through rebar-infused slab with a 12.0HD DeWalt battery and got through three full holes before it gave out, and that was with the hammer function on. Wilbert's a beast for sure, but the battery stuff has come a long way even in the last 2 years. Your mileage may vary if you're pushing a 7-inch grinder all day, but for drilling anchors and light chipping, I've switched fully to cordless and never looked back.
