Totally get that feeling. The marketing makes them seem way out of reach for regular folks. Turns out a lot of that stuff is pretty user friendly once you give it a shot.

My first DSLR camera felt like a spaceship control panel. I almost returned it twice before realizing the auto mode did 90% of what I needed. The fancy terms are just for the manual, which you can ignore for a long time.

Remember @karenc20 though, auto mode is great but you still need to learn the basics like shutter speed to really get the shots you want.
