Shoutout to the guy who called my drill bit choice lazy

Honestly, he saw me using a standard spade bit for a bunch of 2-inch holes through joists and said it was tearing out way too much. Switched to an auger bit he had in his truck and the difference was night and day, way cleaner. Anyone else have a simple tool swap that saved you a ton of cleanup time?

Man, why do people gotta call stuff lazy? Like, you were just getting the job done. That auger bit tip is solid though.

Wait, you were drilling 2-inch holes through joists?

That spade bit versus auger bit debate feels like a pro carpenter thing. I've drilled plenty of holes with whatever bit was in the bag and the world didn't end. Unless you're building a museum, is a little tear-out on a joist in your attic really that big of a deal? Sometimes the "right" tool just saves you ten minutes of sanding.

Agree with you completely, and @kai_ramirez38 hit it right too. Sometimes people get so wrapped up in the "proper" way that they forget a rough hole in a joist is never going to be seen again. Ten minutes of sanding is nothing compared to a trip to the hardware store for a specialty bit you'll use once.
