Spent 4 hours hunting a leak, it was a $2 gasket the whole time

Last Saturday I was chasing a hydraulic leak on my trailer lift gate, went through every hose and fitting in the parking lot behind my shop in Tacoma. Turns out it was the little rubber gasket on the quick coupler, the one I always assumed was fine because it looked fine. Four hours of my weekend, and a 10 minute swap fixed it. Anyone else ever fight a simple part because you skipped the obvious first?

Tell me you skipped the cheap gasket and lost four hours because you wanted to prove it was anything but that. Sometimes the obvious answer is the right one, and all that extra looking just makes you feel smarter for a while.

Same thing with my forklift, looked at the O-ring last and it was the O-ring.
