Watermarked my sample files after a client in Denver used my unwatermarked ones for a pitch deck without paying

After a client in Denver took my unwatermarked rough drafts and used them for a pitch deck and then ghosted me on the $450 invoice, I started slapping watermarks on everything before sending it and the difference in how fast people pay now is night and day, has anyone else had to put locks on their work just to get paid?

Had to start doing the same thing after a client in Austin used my unwatermarked storyboards to pitch a project and then told me they "went in a different direction." I do a big transparent watermark right across the middle now and a smaller one in the corner. The ones who complain about the watermark before they've paid are usually the ones who were never going to pay in the first place.

Good point. Also keeps clients from shopping your rates around.
