A nail tech in Columbus told me buffing the nail plate after filing was a waste of time
I was taught in school to always smooth the nail plate after filing to help product stick, and I did it for 3 years without thinking twice. A nail tech in Columbus told me it was pointless because the dehydrator and primer do all the work, so I stopped on 5 clients and watched them for 2 weeks, and not one lifted. Is this just something we pass down in school because it sounds right, or has anyone seen a real difference?
I spent my first year in the salon buffing like I was polishing a trophy, so hearing it might be pointless stings a little. My own clients have been about the same either way, which makes me wonder if we just do it because a teacher said so once. Maybe prep matters more than the extra step, but old habits die hard when you have been burned by lifting before.
