A stylist at the Paul Mitchell class in Dallas told me to stop over-mixing my color, and it saved my Tuesday
I sat in on a continuing ed class in Dallas back in March, mostly for the hours, and the instructor said something that stuck with me. She told a story about a client whose roots kept going hot for 8 months, and it turned out the stylist was mixing her formula for almost 3 full minutes with the drill. She said over-mixing can shift the tone before it ever touches the head, and I realized I do the same thing because I like the texture to look smooth. Since then I count to 30 seconds and fold the bowl by hand for the last few passes. My root melts have been way more even, and I had zero color corrections in April, which is a first for me. I called my old coworker from the salon in Plano and she said her school taught the same thing but she forgot it years ago. Does anyone here mix longer on purpose, or am I the last one who was overdoing it?
I feel this so much because I did the same drill thing, thinking smooth meant mixed right. A stylist in Dallas calling out 3 minutes with the drill hit home for me too, so you're not the last one.
