I finally gave in and tried bond repair treatments after 8 years of thinking they were hype

I used to tell my chairs in Chicago that Olaplex was just expensive conditioner and there was no way it could fix broken disulfide bonds. Then my own hair started snapping off after too many balayage sessions and I grabbed a bottle out of desperation. Three weeks in and I'm actually seeing less breakage has anyone else had a product change their mind completely?

Hype is exactly what it is still... eight years of skepticism and you cave after one bad balayage? That's exactly what they want you to do. Those bond repair products just coat the hair shaft temporarily and make it feel smoother but they don't actually fix anything deep down. The science behind it is questionable too... disulfide bonds are broken by chemical processes that no conditioner or treatment can truly reverse. You're probably just noticing less breakage because you're treating your hair more gently now or using less heat. Once you stop using that bottle everything snaps right back to the same old problems.

Bet you'd still be skeptical if a bond treatment literally reattached your own arm.

Waited years to try a bond treatment myself after frying my hair with bleach... finally gave in when a stylist talked me into it. Three months in and my hair's actually holding up better between trims, not just feeling smoother but snapping way less.
