I thought those scalp scrubber things were just a TikTok fad, but my client proved me wrong

A regular came in last week for her color touch up and brought her own little silicone scalp scrubber. She said she'd been using it for 3 months with her shampoo. I was ready to roll my eyes, but when I sectioned her hair, her scalp was the cleanest I'd seen in ages, no buildup at all. She let me try it on a section, and the blood flow to the area was noticeably better. I'm honestly thinking of getting a few for the salon now. Has anyone else actually had good results with these, or did I just get lucky with one client?

Oh for real, I saw a whole thing about this on a hair blog last month. They said the key is to use it on wet hair with a ton of conditioner or shampoo to act as a slip, and you gotta be super gentle. Pressing too hard or using it on dry hair basically just roughs up your cuticles and causes breakage. It makes total sense that it would help with blood flow if you do it right, like a mini scalp massage. Your client probably had the technique down perfect.

So you're telling me these things actually work for scalp buildup? My sister bought one on a whim and said it just made her hair feel tangled after, but maybe she was using it wrong.

Honestly it's like @joelh29's sister shows how these little tools need the right technique. So many trends get written off but sometimes there's a real use if you give them a fair shot. The trick is usually in the execution, not the product itself.

Sounds like a lot of effort for a tiny brush.
