Just realized I miss the old perm smell in the salon
Was doing a deep conditioning treatment today and some older lady walked in, sniffed the air, and said 'smells like my mom's salon in 1987.' I laughed but then it hit me. We don't do perms like we used to. I started doing hair in 2009 in Dayton, Ohio and that thioglycolate smell was everywhere on a Tuesday morning. Now it's all smoothing treatments and airbrush glosses. Nothing wrong with that, but there's something about that sharp chemical smell that meant a whole morning of wrapping rods and careful timing. Anyone else feel like we lost some of the craft with the new tech, or am I just getting old?
