Just saw a client with serious hair damage from a new 'fast bleach' powder
I had a client come in yesterday with hair that felt like straw after she tried a new brand that promised lifting in 15 minutes. I compared it to the gentler cream bleach I've used for two years, and the difference was huge. Her ends were snapping off, while my usual method leaves hair feeling strong. Has anyone else had clients bring in damage from these quick lift products?

But honestly, how many people are actually getting that level of meltdown? I see the fear, and @kimr91 makes a fair point about the home users, but most of these products have clear warnings. A lot of clients come in with dry hair from any bleach, not just the fast kind. I've even fixed decent results from box color that used a quick lightener. Sometimes the damage is from leaving it on too long or mixing it wrong, not the product itself.

My cousin tried one of those 20 minute bleach kits last year. She ended up with a patch of hair about the size of a credit card just gone, like snapped off at the scalp. It makes me think @kimr91 is right about the unseen damage, because she just wore hats for months instead of calling a salon.

What about the people who don't even make it to a salon chair? My worry is these products are marketed to folks doing at-home color corrections out of desperation. They see the fast time and think it's the solution for dark hair or old dye, but they lack the skill to see the warning signs. The real damage might be on heads we never get to see, because they're too embarrassed to come in after it melts off.
