Pro tip: That salon visit in Savannah taught me a new foil technique
I was down in Savannah last month visiting family and stopped into a random salon for a trim. The stylist there showed me how she does her foils by folding them into tiny triangles instead of straight sections. I tried it on my last client and the color melted way smoother. Has anyone else tried a weird foil fold that actually worked better?

Just what I needed, another life hack from a random stranger on vacation.

Exactly what gray314 said about straight folds - that's the thing, we all learned it that way for a reason. But here's the kicker, I tried the triangle fold on a balayage client last week and the color blended way more naturally. The tiny sections let the lightener hit different spots instead of one solid stripe. You have to keep your sections thin though, like really thin, or it looks like a patchwork quilt. I think the trick is more about the sectioning than the fold itself honestly. The straight fold still works fine for traditional highlights where you want that uniform look.
