Retired hairdresser told me my foils were upside down, she was right

Last Saturday I was doing a full highlight on a regular at my chair in Austin. This older lady, maybe 75, sits down next to us waiting for her daughter's trim. She watches me for about 10 minutes and then just says 'honey, your foils are leaning the wrong way, you're gonna get banding at the roots.' I laughed it off but checked after I finished. She was absolutely right. I had been placing my foils at a slight angle for 3 years and never noticed the root bleed on fine hair. Now I flip every section the opposite direction and my last 4 clients had zero visible lines. Has anyone else gotten random unsolicited advice from a stranger that turned out to be a game changer?
