Spent $85 on a high-end hair straightener and my flat iron fried my ends in 2 weeks
Thought I was doing myself a favor by upgrading from my old $30 straightener to something fancier. Got a titanium plate one with all the bells and whistles. After using it for about 10 days, my hair started feeling dry and brittle. Looked in the mirror and saw split ends forming right where the plates hit. My cheapo one never did that. Now I'm wondering if I should just go back to ceramic or if I got a dud. Anybody else have titanium wreck your hair?

Whoa, I gotta push back a bit on this one! I've used titanium plates for years and they actually make my hair smoother than ceramic ever did, so maybe you got unlucky with that specific brand or the temperature was cranked way too high.

Wait, have you actually tried using a proper heat protectant spray before straightening? Because I think most of the damage people blame on titanium plates comes down to user error, not the material itself. Your friend probably had the heat dialed up to 450 degrees with no protectant and that would fry any hair type no matter what plates you're using. I've been using the same cheap titanium straightener for three years now and my hair is actually healthier since I switched from ceramic because I can work faster and don't have to go over sections multiple times. The real problem is people cranking the temp way too high and not testing on a small strand first.
