Warning: My home booth lighting upgrade reminded me of harsh salon bulbs from years ago.
I swapped out those old hot lights for soft LEDs and it took me back to when every client squinted under the glare.

The client squint is real

Consider how we make them squint. Showing mockups on a bright screen in a dark room practically INVITES nitpicking, but printed samples on the actual material get a thoughtful nod. Their brain switches from hunting flaws to judging the real thing. That squint is often them trying to protect an idea they can't quite explain.

From my experience, screens don't always invite nitpicking. We once used a high-res interactive mockup and the client focused on the overall feel, not flaws. Printed samples can still get torn apart if the client is in a critical mood. That squint might just be them trying to see better, not shield an idea. Presenting anything in a way that matches the final use seems to work best.
