Warning: The time a perm rod got stuck in my hair at a salon in Boise
I was helping a friend at her salon last Tuesday, and we were doing a spiral perm on a mannequin head for practice. Halfway through, one of the small rods just would not come out, it was tangled in the hair. We tried everything, even a little bit of conditioner, but it was stuck good. Finally, my friend just snipped the hair right above the rod with her shears and we had to start that section over. Has anyone else ever had a tool get stuck like that?

Last year I tried to give myself a home perm using one of those box kits. I ended up with a perm rod so tangled I had to call my sister for a rescue mission. She spent an hour with detangler and a wide-tooth comb before we admitted defeat. I had a weird little patch of super short hair for months after we cut it out. It looked like a small animal had taken a bite out of the back of my head. What's the most embarrassing hair fix you've ever had to explain to people?

Actually think home perms are kind of brave. My worst was trying to bleach my own roots and turning them bright orange.

Remember my friend who tried to cut her own bangs during a zoom meeting? She got one side way shorter than the other and panicked. She tried to even it out and just kept going shorter and shorter. She ended up with these tiny, wispy bangs that barely covered her forehead. She had to tell everyone her cat attacked her while she had scissors, which no one believed lol. It took forever to grow back.

Nah, I gotta disagree with everyone here acting like this is some nightmare scenario. Perm rods getting stuck is basically a rite of passage for anyone who's ever touched a perm kit. It's not that serious. Snip the hair and move on, that's just how it goes sometimes. Honestly, people overreact to these little mishaps like it's a tragedy when really it's just a funny story about learning how hair actually works. That patch of short hair sounds like a solid conversation starter, not something to be embarrassed about.
