Bought a $45 day pass to a coworking space that was just an empty room with a kettle

Last Tuesday I paid $45 for a day pass at a place that advertised 'vibrant community' and 'networking events'. Got there at 9am, it was literally me, one guy on a phone call, and a kettle. No events, no community manager, nothing. I could have worked from home for free. Has anyone else burned cash on a coworking space that turned out to be a dud? How do you vet a place before paying?

Did you check their Google reviews first? Those usually tell the truth.
