Found a better way to meet local freelancers than just using the coffee shop
For the first year I was solo, I'd just camp at the same coffee place in town, hoping to bump into other remote workers. It never really worked. Then, about six months ago, I started going to a weekly 'Freelancer Breakfast' at the Regus on Main Street. I've met three people I now do regular work swaps with. How do you all find your local freelance contacts?

That "Freelancer Breakfast" idea is a game changer. I tried something similar by joining a local gardening club, and it's wild how many connections you make when you're NOT trying to network. It just happens naturally.

My wife talked me into a weekly pottery class last year, and I swear half the people there ended up helping each other with side projects or job leads. You're totally right, when you're just focused on learning a skill or sharing a hobby, the guard comes down. It doesn't feel like a transaction. I got a whole new group of friends from it, and a couple even helped me fix my deck last summer. Forced networking events feel so fake compared to just bumping into people while you're doing something you actually enjoy.
