Hot take: dropping the shared office desk in Austin was the best move for my freelance work
I paid $289 a month for a coworking spot in Austin for 8 months and realized I was spending more time making small talk at the coffee bar than actually billing. When the lease came up last month, I dropped it and set up at the kitchen table instead, and my output went up because nobody taps me on the shoulder mid-task. Everyone says the space is where the referrals come from, but how many of you actually got steady clients from your desk neighbors versus just free Wi-Fi and small talk?

Man, those coffee bar chats ate up way too much of my day too, and the "it's all about referrals" line never really held up for me either. Kitchen table has been way quieter, but your mileage may vary depending on what kind of work you do.
