PSA: The 'networking' at my local coworking spot is just people handing out business cards

Honestly, I went to a meetup at The Grid in Phoenix last Thursday, and it was just a line of people giving their card and moving on. Ngl, I got seven cards in ten minutes but didn't have one real talk. It matters because I'm trying to find actual freelancers to maybe work with, not just collect paper. Has anyone found a better way to connect at these things?

You said you got seven cards but no real talk. That's the whole problem right there. What if you just stopped taking cards and asked one real question instead? Like ask someone what they're stuck on this month or what client wish they had. You might leave with two cards, but you'll remember those two people.

Admit I've been that person clutching a stack of cards like I'm about to play poker instead of actually talking to anyone. @tarar38 it's not that deep but sometimes the shallow stuff is just easier.

My stack of cards says you're right.
