The $5 drop-in fee at a cafe in Boise got me my first real client
I sat at a shared table there last month just to get out of my apartment, and the guy next to me asked what I did, which turned into a full project, so now I want to know where the rest of you found your first local client.
The "$5 drop-in fee" part is what got me. I paid way more than that years ago for a coworking desk in a strip mall, and the only person who ever talked to me was a guy trying to sell me insurance. Total waste. What actually worked was the laundromat near my old place, weird as that sounds. I did my wash every Sunday morning at the same time, and after about a month I knew the regulars by face, and one of them ran a small landscaping crew. He needed help with his books. So the lesson I took from it is that the place does not matter much. Being there over and over at the same time is what does it. The cafe worked for you because you kept going back.
