Tried the free day at The Foundry in Portland, ended up with a new project.

Went in just to get out of the apartment, used their coffee bar. Started chatting with a guy about his website. He needed photos of his products. Showed him my phone portfolio. Now I'm shooting his new line next week. Anyone else land work just by being in a space?

My old coworker got three freelance clients just by working from a library downtown for a month. He said it was all about being seen with his laptop open to his design work, like a quiet ad. It makes you think about how much we miss by only talking to people online. I need to get out of my house more often.

Wow, that's such a good point from @rosecarr. I mean, just being around people in a chill spot like that can open doors you don't even see online. Makes me wanna grab my stuff and post up somewhere public tomorrow.

Totally used to think you had to grind on job sites to find work. Reading this and the comments just flipped a switch for me. It's so obvious now that just being around other people doing stuff is its own kind of networking, way less forced than online. I'm honestly going to try working from the cafe in my building's lobby next week.

Man, @the_hayden is onto something too. Makes you wonder though, is working in public just a built-in excuse to grab more coffee than you normally would?
