My 8 year old niece asked me why the crane doesn't get dizzy when it spins. Now I can't unthink it.

Actually read that crane operators have a fixed reference point in the cab to avoid getting disoriented.

Ever notice how many jobs need that one steady thing to keep from getting lost? It's not just cranes. Pilots watch the horizon, surgeons focus on a single point in the body. Without that anchor, everything gets confusing fast. It makes me wonder if we all need our own fixed point just to get through a normal day. The world throws so much at us, having something solid to look at keeps you from spinning out.

Forget fixed points, the real trick is learning to spin without getting lost.
