PSA: Over-tightening those sling shackles is a sure way to stress the steel, from what I've seen

In my experience, a little play in the connection actually helps spread the load better, but your mileage may vary.

Man, I learned that one the hard way myself. I used to crank them down until there was zero movement, thinking that was the right way. Hey @robertperez, seeing your comment makes me feel a bit better about my old habit. I basically turned a good shackle into a paperweight by stressing it out. That click or bit of play you feel isn't a flaw, it's part of how it's meant to work. I was just overthinking it and ended up buying new gear for no good reason.

I used to crank them down tight too, but you're right about the load spreading.

Turning a shackle into a paperweight is insane. How tight did you crank it down? I've seen people over-tighten things, but that takes it to a whole new level. It must have been completely useless after that, just a lump of metal.
