Vent: spent 6 hours chasing a boom drift on a 60 ton Grove and it was a $4 o-ring
Last Wednesday I was on a site in Fresno and the boom kept creeping down about an inch every 20 minutes, which is a problem when you're holding a steel beam over a crew. I checked the holding valve, bled the lines twice, and had the dealer on the phone for an hour before my oiler noticed a tiny weep at the pilot fitting. Turns out a $4 o-ring was letting pressure slip past, and the whole job sat idle for 6 hours over it. Has anyone else had a drift that turned out to be something stupid small like that?

Man, that hits home. I swear half the big problems in life come down to some stupid little thing nobody looks at twice. Your whole morning gets eaten by a leak the size of a pencil tip while everybody's staring at the expensive parts. Same thing happens with my truck, chasing some weird rattle for weeks and it's a two dollar bolt that walked loose. We always jump to the worst case first because that's what our brains are wired for, but the small stuff bites way more often. Glad your oiler caught it before something worse happened with that beam hanging up there.
