Walked a job site in Memphis last week and saw three different operators using the same hand signal wrong

It was a simple 'boom up' but they were all wiggling their thumb instead of pointing straight up, has anyone else noticed new guys mixing up the standard signals on site?

Figure it's just one of those things that stuck around because it's kinda fun or maybe they think it looks friendlier or something. Honestly it's such a small thing, I can't see how anyone gets worked up about it unless they're staring really hard at someone's thumb during a conversation. Half the time I'm probably not even looking where their thumb is anyway, just seeing if they're giving me a thumbs up or down and moving on.

Yeah that wiggle thing drives me nuts, just point your thumb up like a normal person.
