Why does nobody talk about how much weight a 100 ton crane actually loses with every 10 feet of boom extension?
I was reading the manual for our Liebherr LTM 1050 last night, and I ran across this chart that shows load capacity dropping by almost 40% when you go from 30 feet of boom to 60 feet. I always knew you lost capacity but I didn't realize it was that steep. Found it buried in the appendix. Has anyone else been surprised by a stat like that from their own rig's paperwork?

Just read the manual, guess I'm never extending the boom again.

Aw man, I feel that. I've definitely had those moments where I read the fine print on something I've been doing for years and realize I should probably NOT be doing that. It's like your whole routine gets called into question over a simple sentence in a manual. That sinking feeling is the worst, especially when it's something you do all the time at work or around the house. For what it's worth, you're not alone in that boat.

I read somewhere that most microwave manuals say not to boil water in them because it can superheat and explode in your face. Now I can't make a cup of tea without feeling like I'm gambling with my eyebrows. Guess ignorance really was bliss on that one.
