Appreciation post: That $15 antique journal I bought on a whim in Portland
I used to think expensive leather notebooks were the only way to go for writing prompts, but I grabbed this cheap one from a flea market for $15 and it's got this rough paper that makes my ideas flow way better. Seriously, I wasted like $80 on fancy Moleskines that I never even wrote in because I was scared to ruin them. This thing is stained and messy already and I've filled half of it in just two weeks. Has anyone else found a random cheap notebook that just clicks with your writing style?

Dollar store spiral notebooks are all I use now, no pressure to be perfect.

Totally get that. Picking up a plain spiral notebook feels like you're allowed to make a mess and that's the whole point. No worrying about the margins being straight or the ink bleeding through. It's actually way more freeing than the expensive stuff.

Okay so I actually started doing the EXACT same thing last year and it really helped me get over my perfectionism with writing. I used to buy those fancy $10 journals and then get SO scared to mess them up that I'd never even open them. Now I just grab the 50 cent spiral ones from the grocery store and I can write whatever garbage comes to mind without caring if I make a typo or spill coffee on it.
